Professor Liying Cheng is operating in the capacity of an advisor, coach, and leader to professional organizations. She combines her many years as a researcher, educator, and mentor to support the next generation of scholars to move missions of the organizations forward.

Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL)

Dr. Cheng is currently the chair of The Center for Applied Linguistics' Board of Trustees. The mission of the Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL) is to promote language learning and cultural understanding by serving as a trusted source for research, resources, and policy analysis. Through its work, CAL seeks solutions to issues involving language and culture as they relate to access and equity in education and society around the globe.

PTE Technical Advisory Group

Dr. Cheng serves as a member of the PTE Academic Technical Advisory Group, which comprises experts from both language testing and psychometrics. They provide feedback, advice, and critical assessment of the development of PTE Academic at every stage.
